We will make a frame (scrapbooking genre) around a character.
The decoration of the framework is based on the chosen topic.
In the example it is a young child.
The framework will be done with juveniles patterns.
In another case where the subject would be a young person, who plays football,
grounds would be different and appropriate.
Therefore, everything depends on the subjects.

In the example
1- The subject has been cut by using the tool : Lasso selection
Selection type: point to point.
Mode : Replace
Progressivety : 2
Softness : 0
Antialiasing :checked
In this case, the background was dark and it contain different elements like, arms,
legs therefore it was preferable to delete the background .
But when the background is nice, you can keep it.
2-Around the image, a framework has been added. it makes 542 x 530 pixels.
The dimension of the framework is based in function of the image.
The blue arrows represent horizontal and vertical guides that both of then are 2
to 157 from the edge. Which forms a square.

Squares of 157 by 157 pixels demonstrates that the
width is equal from both sides
Here the dimension of the support is 856x 846 pixels.
the Support is therofore rectangular, because everything was calculated in function
of the framework that is around the subject.
The important here is the mouldings that must have the same width on each side.
The tutorial consists in explaining the tools and this options and advises for the application.
For the third lesson, you will need about 10 tiles with patterns and textures that you will find on the Web.
But you can make your own tiles.
