Brushes and tubes


VIDEO - 1

Open PSP.
Open a new image of 200 by 200 pixels.
Transparent: checked
OK

Select the Zoom tool.
Make several clicks in the image to zoom in to 250 %
In styles and texture: foreground: closed.
Background: black.

We will make a star.
Open a new vector layer and name it: “a
OK

Select the vector tool symmetric shape“.
In the sub options, select: draw a star.

View nodes: checked
Create on vector: checked.
Number of sides: 5
RADIUS: 40.00
For the exercise : interior curve: checked.

A click at the top left of the image.
Hold the mouse down and pull down to the right.
Release the mouse.
We have the nodes and the arrow before and after.
We can customize our star by moving the arrow from
before or after the node as the desired.

Convert the vector layer to a raster layer.
Right click on the layer Raster 1 (which is empty).
Delete this layer.

Note: you can choose any shapes.
Round or rectangular shapes or create a shape by using the pen tool.

Select: File, Export, Custom brush.
Type a meaningful name for the brush.
I suggest you name your brushes by placing a numeral prefix,
followed by a dash and a name.


In the example is 1-star.
OK

Minimize the image to the bottom of the desktop.

Open a new image of 400 by 400 pixels.
Choose a background color.
In the example: white.
You could choose also a gradient or pattern.
OK

Open a new raster layer and name it: star
OK

Select the Brush tool.
Taskbar option, click the small arrow next to the brush.
Note: in the right window we have different view types.
Select the same view we just picked.
Click on the brush you just created.
OK.

In styles and textures choose in the foreground, a color of your choice.
OK

Make a click in the image.
We can customize options by changing as needed the size, pitch, density,
rotation, opacity and color or gradient or texture.

We can do a cutout on these forms and (or)
a drop shadow.
With your configurations.


Example here with the effect: 3D shadow.


To remove a brush from the list:
Select the Brush tool.
Click on the list of brushes.
Select the resource manager.
Select the brush and delete it.
At the prompt window, asking you if you want to remove it : Yes.
Close the brushes list.

Click in the blank space of the desktop.
Upon reopening of PSP, the brush does appear in the list.

Concerning the Step option
  
Select the Brush tool.
Select the brush.
Click on the image and while holding down the mouse button,
move the brush in a continuous movement.


Example with a step setting at 1.
Example with a step setting at 50.
Example with a step setting at 100.
Example with a setting at 200.

Making a tube:

We will make an Apple.

Open a new image of 200 by 200 pixels.
Transparent: checked.
OK

Select the Zoom tool.
Make several clicks in the image to zoom in to 250 %

Open a new vector layer and name it.
OK

Select the Ellipse vector tool.
In the sub options choose: draw a circle.
View nodes and create on vector: both checked
In style and texture:
Foreground: closed
Background: Red
OK

Draw a red circle.
Right-click the shape: select make path.
Select the vector tool: pen.
Select the top node and pull down slightly.

Make a right click on the node.
In: Type of node, choose: Cusp
Round the curve front and rear of the node to
give the form of an Apple.
Apply.

Select the pen tool.
Open the foreground and choose a green color.
OK
Close the background.

The stem:

Select the pen tool.
Mode set on freehand,
Connect segments and create on vector: checked.
Line style: Solid
Width 4.00
Anti-aliasing: checked.
Draw a stem.
Apply.

The leaves:

Swap the color from foreground to background.
With the line tool in freehand setting, draw the leaves.
Apply.

Open the vector sub-layers and drag the layer of the Apple to the top of the stack.
Convert the vector layer to a raster layer.

Right click on the Raster 1 layer which is empty.
Delete this layer.


We will make a cutout.
Selection, select all.
Selection, floating.
Effect, 3d, cutout.
Configure your options.

In the example:
Offset: V and H :1
Opacity: 50
Blur: 20.00
Color: dark red.
OK

Selection, deselect all.



To Tube:
Click: File, Export, Tube to image.
Configuration: by default.
Name your tube.
Example : 1-Apple
OK.

Minimize the image at the bottom of the desktop.

Open an image of 400 by 400 pixels
Color of your choice.
In the example is white.
You could also choose a gradient or pattern.
OK

Open a new raster layer.
Name it: Apple.
OK

Select the Picture tube tool.
Taskbar option, click the small arrow next the tube.
In the list, select the tube you just created.

With the cursor, make a click in the image.
We can easily move the Apple and make a rotation

We can, on another raster layer, add another Apple (or several)
by reducing or increasing the scale required.


In the example I add a drop shadow effect on the separate layers.

We'll see below the more detailed explanation of: Step.

To remove a tube in the list:
Select the picture tube tool.
In options, open the Tubes list.
Select the resource manager.
Select the tube to be deleted.
Delete.
In the window prompt asking if you want to delete, click Yes.

Close the list of the tubes.
Click in the empty on the desktop.

When you reopen PSP, the tube does appear in the list.
