Image adjustment

For the lesson I use this photo . Right clic to save.




This photo will be useful to us to get acquainted with certain adjustments
used for the photos, but interesting to get to know for our creations.

Open the photo in PSP.

Window: duplicate the image.
Close the original.
Save this new image and give it a name.

VIDEO 1

In PSP: select the hand tool.
In style and texture: set on black and white.
In the Layer palette, right click on the layer named Background.
Important : Click on, Change to Normal Layer.
Save in psp.

Here the image is 1024 by 768.
We are going to crop it.
Select the crop tool.
We can customize by modifying the corners and sides with the cursor.
We can also set a fixed dimension in the options.
Ex:emple :  width: 600 and height: 500 pixels, while centering the subject.
One click on the Apply icon.
Apply can be found in two places or by double clicking inside the framework.
Save in psp.

In “Adjustments”
Make an optimal processing of your choice.
As we discussed in the previous lesson.

In “Adjustments“: select the color balance.
Important: for several effects we have the opportunity to view the result
on the image.
Therefore, check: Preview the image.

Do you want a color colder or hotter?
Move with the slider bar, right or left.
It’s up to you to judge!

If the result does not satisfy you: Undo last command!
Let us not forget: we can also restore the last command.
Save in PSP



 

VIDEO 2

In Adjustments select: color channel mixer.

To reset the default value: select the back arrow which activates the
monochrome box which is editable in grey tones.

To retrieve the default colors, uncheck monochrome box.

As output channel: red, green and blue.
Drag source channels bars and the constant, depending on your taste.
OK ....or cancel as appropriate.

Adjustment
/Color/ Reviving.
Here I place at 50, but adjust according to your own taste.

Adjustment /Color/ red green blue to increase or decrease the hue of a color.
OK or cancel as appropriate.

An overview of the tone and the brightness and contrast and saturation.

Adjustment / brightness and contrast.

Select the Find tab.
Type the word: adjustment.
View the topics.
Select the title: brightness and contrast adjustments.
View.

On the image, try out each of the options in the brightness and contrast.
Experiment also with each of the options of the hue and saturation.

In Adjustments: depth of field.
We have two images Before and After.
On the left: the chosen focal plan is the circle.
On the right: the effect on the image.
The part of the image which lies within the circle is clear and the part
placed outside is fuzzy.

You have three choices of 3 focal shapes: circular, tool selection, rectangle.
We can reverse the effect on the form.
We can increase the blur and adjust the focal shape.
Each configuration requires time for rendering.
Be patient during preview update.

An easy configuration gives a nice effect.
OK or cancel as appropriate.

Save in psp after each change.



 

VIDEO 3

In Adjustments, select all unique options.
(without arrow)
(Smoothing the skin and red eye removal shall apply especially for having
a close-up of a person. (This is the subject of video 4: )
Setting add/remove noise, noise /Add!

Sample default here.
Monochrome for black and white or non-checked noise for noise in color!
OK
Effect can be very nice in some cases.
Note: noise adds greatly to the image KB size.

Setting add/remove noise /Automatic suppression of striping.
For a particular effect.

For the blur!
Hey well each has his preferred blur and it is necessary
to experiment with them all according to the photo.
I often use the Gaussian blur.


For sharpness!
To make a clearer image, “sharpen” is the lowest setting.
To increase the sharpness of a picture, select the “more sharpness”
option . (the effect adds some KB to image!)

For softness!
The Artistic Blur option gives a particular effect depending
on its configuration.
Example here with basic configurations.

Finally, I’ll leave it to you to experiment with the other two softness settings.



Here is an effect called: pint of milk.
Here is the image . Right clic to save.


In the layer pallette, duplicate the layer.
On the copy, select the small arrow to the right of normal select: Darken
You will see no difference.
Setting / Blur>Gaussian blur. RADIUS 14.00
But the settings depend on the image.
If the image is smaller, the value of the RADIUS should be reduced.

These are the two layers, one over the other which gives the effect.
Then: Merge visible layers.



 

VIDEO 4

Red-eye.

Here is the image . Right clic to save.

Setting: remove red eye.
In the window on the image on the left, move the cursor
(which has the shape of a cross) and make a click on the white point.
You will see on the right the change in the eye.

In method: automatic human eye.
Hue: here it is Brown, because the subject has Brown eyes.
Depending on the subject, change the color of the eyes.
In the window at the bottom we have different shades of the chosen color.
Make a choice.
Change other configurations depending on your choice.

Smoothing the skin.
Here is the image . Right clic to save.

Setting: skin compensation.
By default it is 50.
Increase or decrease the value according to your taste.
Here I place 25.
